A lesson from Matthew

"Take Courage! It is I.  Don't be afraid."  Jesus

These words bring me comfort this morning.  Our bible study has been going through the book of Matthew, now on chapter 14.  I find myself in awe of Jesus over and over again, His words, His gentleness, the way He spoke straight ot the heart.  In Matthew 14:27, Jesus is speaking to the disciples, as He is walking on the water toward them in the boat,  "It is I!"  Peter is safe in the boat and He responds to Jesus, "Lord, if it is you, tell me to come to you on the water."

Think about this..why would Peter test Jesus like this?  And how does Jesus respond? "come"  This is even more incredible!  All of this, encourages me.  Jesus is bringing comfort by telling the disciples in the boat, "take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."  but He is also ready to SHOW them He is in control-of it all, the wind, the waves, and them!  His requirement?  Trust HIM!

I am reminded and encouraged today, it is not a blind trust, God shows me everyday that He is trustworthy...Jesus taught great lessons, while proving His deity through miracles, and proving His love by the price He paid on the cross.  He went all the way for us!

Today, I take courage in this knowledge.
